Prepare product information that answers buying questions
An eCommerce launch checklist begins with useful product information. Prepare accurate names, descriptions, prices, availability and variations. Use clear photographs and explain sizes or compatibility where relevant. Avoid copying supplier descriptions without checking them. Visitors need enough information to make an informed choice, and your operations team needs consistent product records to fulfil the order correctly.
Make browsing and checkout understandable
Organize categories around how customers look for products. Keep navigation consistent and show what is in the basket. Explain required checkout details and display the total clearly before payment. Test on a small screen with realistic product names and delivery addresses. Check empty baskets, unavailable variations and interrupted sessions. A checkout should explain the next step instead of making customers guess whether an action worked.
Verify payments in the appropriate test environment
Use the payment provider’s supported test process before accepting real orders. Check successful, declined and interrupted payments. Confirm that the order status follows the verified payment result rather than a browser return page alone. Ensure that repeated callbacks cannot create duplicate orders. Your developer should explain which payment data the store handles and which stays with the provider. Never collect unnecessary card information in an ordinary contact form.
Define delivery, returns and customer support
Document where you can deliver, how charges are calculated and how customers can contact support. Show relevant policies before purchase. Review policy wording against your actual operating model and applicable requirements before publication. Align the website with the team handling packing, dispatch and returns. A shipping promise that the operations team cannot fulfil creates problems the design cannot solve.
Test the complete order workflow
Place test orders through the full journey and verify every notification, stock adjustment and administration screen. Include an order with multiple items and any supported variations. Check that customer details reach only the people who need them. Test refunds or cancellations using the provider’s approved test tools. Record who will investigate payment issues and what evidence they need, without logging sensitive payment data.
Finish the launch and maintenance checklist
Confirm hosting, backups, secure administration and ownership of connected accounts. Review product page titles, descriptions and useful internal links. Check that temporary pages and test orders cannot be mistaken for live content. Agree how catalogue updates will be managed after launch.
